Prokaryotes are found in the soil and plant roots. They can be found in large numbers, making up for 80% of the cells in the soil. These bacteria are present in all plants, not just crops. These bacteria live off of plant roots when it's time to digest food particles that are too big for them to break down on their own. They also release chemicals that protect plants from diseases or other invaders.
