Dreadlocks are the latest hairstyle that people are starting to take notice of. Maybe you're looking for a new look or you just watched Black Beauty and now you want to try this new style, either way, dreads are becoming more popular with each passing day!

Before you run out and get them, though, there are some things you need to know. Dreadlocks take anywhere from six months to two years to actually form dreads so it's best not to base your schedule on when they'll be done growing. They will also require the dedication of your time, patience, and thorough maintenance including regular washing with a special soap that is made for this style of hair. If you're ready and willing to put in the work then go ahead and read on! We'll tell you the most important parts about how to get dreads!

First thing's first, don't panic when people ask what happened to your hair! As far as most people are concerned it is just a different look for you. Dreadlocks are usually created by people who care about their hair and know how important it is to take care of it properly. They make sure that they use the right shampoo, conditioner, soap, and other products to keep their locks clean and healthy.

Next up on our list of things about dreads, don't be upset when your friends (and maybe even family) ask why you're doing this! You can tell them that you want to try something new or be different from everyone else in the best possible way. If you aren't quite bold enough for a big change like this one alone then maybe wear a hat until all of your friends get used to your new look (although we guarantee they'll love it pretty quickly).

When you do decide to grow your locks, make sure that they are healthy! Get an oil or hair treatment for whatever type of hair you have. This will help it to stay moisturized and strong so that the dreads will form without any problems. You'll also want to wash your hair regularly with a special shampoo made just for dreadlocks. At first, this might seem like too much work but it's actually quite easy after a while, believe us!

At some point, though, you may not be able to take the itching anymore. That's when it is time to start ripping out those knots! If there are any hanging loose already then pull them apart carefully so as not to damage the rest of your locks further.

Once you've separated them, don't be afraid! You can pull out as many as your heart desires and no one will judge you for it; we promise. It is also a good idea to do this once or twice a year at least because that way you'll know that they aren't too tightly locked together. Just make sure that when you're pulling apart your dreads you check for any loose hairs first and make your tugging painless if possible.

One of the most important things about how to get dreads is knowing where to go and who to ask if you need help with them! Your friends and family are always there to support you but what about those times when they just won't understand? Trust us, we know how that feels. In those cases, it's best to go to a professional and have them help you with the process.

There are many salons that specialize in dreadlocks and they will be more than happy to help you out! Just make sure that you do your research before going in so that you're sure about what kind of style you want. You don't want to walk in and then change your mind halfway through, after all!

Now that you know all there is to know about Dreadlocks, it's time for you to decide if this is the right hairstyle for you! Remember, it takes some work but it's definitely worth it in the end. luck and we can't wait to see your new locks!
